What field service management means when you are the field

Field service management is the category name for software that runs a service business's day: who is going where, what they are doing there, what it costs, and whether it got billed. Jobber, Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan all sit in it. So does this. The difference is who it was built for.

Those platforms were built for shops with a dispatcher, an office manager and a dozen trucks, and they price like it: per technician, per month. A four-person shop on ServiceTitan is $1,000 to $2,000 a month before anyone has priced a job. HomeServicesIT was built for the owner who is also the estimator, the dispatcher and the person sending the invoice from the driveway.

The six things it runs

Scheduling and dispatch

Put the job on a truck, re-run that one route, and the change lands on the tech's phone. Dispatch for one to five trucks with no dispatcher needed. The rest of the day stays where it was.

The questions a schedule has to answer

Quoting from cost

Set up what a square, a foot or a unit takes, once. Type a number and the estimate builds itself, priced at the margin you set, with up to six options on one quote.

What markup a 30% margin needs

Work orders on a board

Lead, quoted, scheduled, in progress, complete. The job card is the work order, and it moves when the work moves. Nothing bills itself by being dragged.

Invoicing from the driveway

The approved quote becomes the invoice. It goes out as a PDF and into the customer portal before you pull away, and a list of finished work with no invoice on it means nothing quietly goes out for free.

How invoicing works here

Customer records, which is the CRM

Every property with its history, photos, quotes and invoices, and the notes you would want before you knock. That is the CRM half of the job, without a second subscription for it.

What the customer sees

Photo proof on every job

Before and after, timestamped, on the job and in the customer's own portal. The dispute about what was done ends before it starts.

Questions people ask before they switch

Is HomeServicesIT field service management software?

Yes. It schedules and dispatches the work, prices it from cost, tracks it on a job board, invoices it and keeps the customer record, which is the whole field service job. What it leaves out is the layer built for a dispatcher and a call centre, because a crew of one to five has neither.

What is the best scheduling app for a small service business?

The one that survives a Tuesday. A no-heat call has to land on one truck without moving the other truck's day, the change has to reach the tech's phone, and a printed copy has to exist for the day the phone dies. That is what the schedule here is built around, and it costs the same whether one person or five are on it.

Do you charge per technician?

No. Crew logins come in a block with the plan: Solo includes one for a helper, Crew includes five at $79 a month, and Pro at $149 has no cap on logins. Adding a fourth tech to a five-login plan costs nothing, which is exactly the line item the per-technician platforms bill you for.

Does it handle work orders?

Yes, as the job card on the board. A job carries its quote, its schedule, its photos and its invoice, and it moves from lead to complete as the work does. There is no separate work-order module to keep in step with the schedule, because the card is the work order.

Can I run it from my phone, between jobs?

Yes, and that is how it is meant to be run. Add the call, put it on one truck, take the before and after photos, send the invoice from the driveway. Nothing here assumes a desk, an office manager or a second screen.
